Our speaker was David Stocks who gave a fascinating presentation on the life of Beatrix Potter despite some early technical hitches. It turns out that contrary to popular myth, Beatrix did like children despite never having any of her own and despite her wealth she led a simple life farming in the Lake District. David Stocks was formerly a room guide at Hill Top, Beatrix’s house in the Lake District and he gave us an insight into her life and family , her upbringing, her conservation efforts, the writing of her children’s stories and her involvement with the National Trust. The meeting was well attended with 56 ladies there including several new members.
