February Members Meeting

The speaker for the meeting was Suzanne Kempe who gave an interesting and insightful talk about the New Forest and its grazing livestock, from the perspective of a forest Commoner. Suzanne has been a Commoner since the 1980s and breeds New Forest ponies. These grazing rights have existed since the Forest was first incorporated as a hunting ground by William the Con-queror 900 years ago. There are 5 agisters responsible for the welfare of the stock; they are em-ployed by the Verderers who are responsible for the management of the whole Forest area which extends to some 140,000 acres. Members were reminded of the telephone numbers to call to report any accidents or animal welfare concerns: 02380 282052 during office hours 0300 067 4600 out of hours
